Cheap Domain Registration

Cheap Domain RegistrationIn these modern times, domain registration has provided a number of people with a very lucrative form business. As a matter of fact, people are rushing to register domain names in the hopes of making millions out of their investments.

This is not an isolated case. We have seen this phenomena replicated over and over again.  During the dot com era, popular domain names are bought by huge corporations, earning the lucky owner thousands if not millions of dollars.

Often, domain name registration is based on a first-come-first-served basis, hence, the necessity of rushing to register.  This phenomena is likened to the gold rush in the 18th century. To those lucky few who were able to register the most popular names would most likely secure bigger offers for their domains.  It comes as a little surprise then that people from all walks of life want to get their share of the pie.

It is probably safe to say that the domain name Gold rush has subsided already.  Now, people are no longer rushing to register domain names to be able to sell them later for huge sums of money.  The focus of website owners now is more on finding cheap domain names that offer them a discount.

When domain names were first offered online, there was only one place that one can buy them.  The selling price was quite prohibitive back then at $35 per domain.  A lot of people refrained from buying domain names because of the costs.

Later, other registrars were allowed to sell domain names. Consequently, the cost of buying domain names spiralled downwards.  Cheap domain registration became the norm as hundreds if not thousands of competitors crop up to get a piece of the domain pie.

Competition brought the prices down. Now, one can easily find really cheap domain names all over the internet. Some even sell below one dollar. Others are free or thrown in if you subscribe to other services such as web hosting.

However, just because the domain names are really cheap, it does not follow that you should choose them.  One should not compromise quality for price.  If your domain name is used for a business, then you should not scrimp on the costs.

Business websites rely a lot on a reliable online registrar especially if sales transactions are conducted at the site.  This is one good reason why choosing a cheap domain registrar might not be desirable. At one point, a registrar was selling $.99 domain names.  It became so popular that millions of domain names were created in short span of time. This has caused the system to crash. As a result, a number of domain names needed to be transferred to other registrars.  Later, the company collapsed. A number of webmasters lost valuable domain names in the process.

That is why one needs to be extra cautious in choosing a domain name registrar.  Cheap domain registration abounds. But one should make sure that it is legitimate and not of fly-by-night nature.

The first thing that you should look for in a cheap domain registration is reliability. Find out if the company selling them is reputable. Most of these registrars will sell the cheap domains through a coupon.  They will not advertise the availability of the coupon on their website but a simple google search can help you find one.
