Dial-up internet services are an older technology that people don’t use unless it’s their only option. If you can’t get broadband services (because of where you live, or for other reasons), dial-up is a great way to still connect.
Why Use Dial-Up Service?
Broadband services are expensive. People who don’t need a fast connection ocan find a free dial-up access in areas across the United States. Multiple companies today offer free dial-up access service, from California to New Jersey and many states in between.
If you’re not averse to a few long distance charges, the dialup access is free from anywhere. If you use a VOIP phone service you can use the free dial-up without a long distance charges.
While dial-up isn’t the most speedy of services, using it might be necessary at times. If you live in a rural area where your Internet is subject to weather hiccups or other problems from time to time, dial-up can be an excellent backup. The addition of the dial-up settings won’t interfere with your high-speed connection on any level. You can set up the dial-up to dial when a broadband connection is not available to you, so that your dial-up will kick in only when necessary.
If you simply can’t afford the cost of high speed Internet, then dial-up is an excellent resource.
These services will cost you no payments, regardless of how little or how much you use it.
Most free dial-up Internet services require that you put up with some advertisements in payment for the service. It’s a small price to pay to be able to have a free service that you can use at any time.
What’s the Catch?
There is no real catch. Over the past few hours, we’ve reviewed four of the available free dial-up internet access services. There were no hitches other than the advertisements that you are subjected to, most of which were not overly loud or glaring in nature. The only issues that we dealt with were using a speed that we were not accustomed to.
Most of the free Internet services that we reviewed required no special dialers. None of them included spyware, malware, or proprietary browsers or software that you needed to download.
If you live in a rural area where you are still paying for dialup services, it can’t hurt to take a test run on one of the free dial-ups.
We tested several of them, finding that they were relatively easy to set up. There was nothing extra to download. Great instructions were given to set up the dial up settings in your Windows XP or even Vista computer. The service is also available for other operating systems. Directions for setting up your dial-up service in either MAC or Linux were also available for those who use alternative operating systems.
In addition, the proprietary type dialers or software downloads, such as those used by AOL and other services didn’t exist. You s input the settings and test the service. Setting up the service was simple and easy to accomplish. It was no slower really than any other dial-up services that we’ve used. There was no account to set up, no long range commitment, no hidden charges that we could find and you sign no contract.
How Can They Do This?
Because high traffic can offer rewards such as pay per click and other type of revenue from advertisements, the cost of the services can sometimes pay for themselves. So long as they continue to do so, and to generate a profit, companies can offer this service to the public.
Using pay-per-click type advertising, each time a user clicks on one of the ads, a small amount of money is generated. This helps to pay for the service and in most cases, makes a profit for the company that will allow them to continue to offer the service. If you use the service frequently, it’s in your best interests to click one or two of the offered advertisements.
What are the Cons of the Service?
Free dial-up services seem to be cropping up much more frequently. We believe this is in response to the depressed economy that the country is currently undergoing. While dial-up won’t be as speedy as you want, it will let you adequately load most pages and send the email that you need to send.
Downloading files may present a few problems, but the use of a download manager can help with that. Download managers mean that you won’t lose a file if you are disconnected during the process of downloading.
